Wan-Yan Sandy Chau

Wai-Yan Sandy Chau is both Founder and President of Trident USA: a diversified holding company that invests in real estate and provides venture capital throughout Greater China and the United States. As a Hua Yuan "Angel," Mr. Chau has been an active investor in several companies started by Hua Yuan members including: Achievo, Viador, Servgate, Photonify, EnReach, and Televigation. Prior to Trident USA, from 1986 - 1999 Mr. Chau actively invested in real estate and provided venture capital in Taiwan, China, and the US. He served as Chairman of CITIC Shenzhen Properties from 1994 - 1997 and from 1992 - 1995 served as President of Pacific Constructions, one of the largest public real estate development companies traded publicly in Taiwan. Before real estate, Mr. Chau was a successful technology entrepreneur, founding Universal Semiconductor and running the company as its CEO.

Mr. Chau was born in Shanghai, was raised in Hong Kong and Vietnam, and received his B.S. and MBA in the US.

Hsing Kung, Ph.D

Dr. Kung co-founded Pine Photonics in 2000 and served as President/ CEO until merge with Opnext. He has then served as Sr. VP of Opnext Inc until 2005. Currently, he is a partner of Acorn Campus Ventures and Chairman of Luxnet Corporation. His previous experience included co-founder/VP manufacturing of SDL Inc. from 1983 to 1997. He also serves on the boards of several optoelectronics companies.

Dr. Kung was former chairman of Monte Jade (West coast) in 2004. In recent years, he has devoted to promote Chinese-American participation in main stream community. He was a former board member of Fremont Union High School District Board. In his tenure, he has made significant contribution to promote multi-culture climate in high schools. In addition, he also involved in many other community programs and foundations. Currently, he serves on United Way Silicon Valley Board, and American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley board.

In 1997, he was awarded Distinguished Alumni Award from Northern American National Cheng Kung University Alumni Association. In March 2001, he has received a Partnering for Education award from The National Council of Negro Women, Northern California Sections. In December, 2001, Margaret and Hsing have received "Venture Culturists" award from DeAnza College. In 2002, he received "Asian American Hero 2002" award from County of Santa Clara. In April 2004, he received "Community Star Award" from Asian Americans for Community Involvement, and "Helen Tao Activist of Year" Award from Silicon Valley APA Democratic Club.

Dr. Kung holds BSEE from National Cheng Kung University, Ph.D EE from University of California at Berkeley, and MBA from Santa Clara University.

Cheng Liu, Ph.D
CEO & Founder
Dr. Liu is the founder and CEO of Eureka Therapeutics, Inc. Prior to founding Eureka, Dr. Liu served as a principal scientist in Antibody Drug Discovery at Chiron (now part of Novartis). Dr. Liu has 20 years of experience in biology research and drug discovery with extensive experience and knowledge in cancer therapeutic antibody discovery and development, including target identification, validation, assay development, and screening for drug candidates. He is the inventor of 14 patents filed in the US and Europe. He also served as president of SAPA-West from 2004-2005 and on its Executive committee and Adversory committee from 1998-2007.

Dr. Liu received his B.S. in Genetics from Beijing University, M.S. in Molecular Biology from Beijing University, and a Ph.D. in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Bruce Ames, Ph.D

Dr. Ames is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Ames is well-known for his invention of the Ames Test, a biological assay to assess the mutagenic potential of chemical compounds. He currently serves on the Commission on Life Sciences for the National Academy of Sciences and was a member of the board of directors of the National Cancer Institute from 1976 to 1982. He was the recipient of the General Motors Cancer Research Foundation Prize (1983), the Tyler Environmental Prize (1985), the Gold Medal Award of the American Institute of Chemists (1991), the Glenn Foundation Award of the Gerontological Society of America (1992), the Lovelace Institutes Award for Excellence in Environmental Health Research (1995), the Honda Prize of the Honda Foundation, Japan (1996), the Japan Prize awarded by the Japanese Emperor , (1997), the Kehoe Award, American College of Occupational And Environmental Medicine (1997), the Medal of the City of Paris (1998), the U.S. National Medal of Science awarded by President Clinton(1998), the Linus Pauling Institute Prize for Health Research (2001), and the American Society for Microbiology Lifetime Achievement Award (2001). He has contributed to over 450 publications and is one of the most-cited scientists in all fields.

Hsing-Jien Kung, Ph.D

Dr. Kung is a Professor in Biological Chemistry at the University of California at Davis, School of Medicine. He is also the Director of Basic Science Research at the UC Davis Cancer Center. Dr. Kung is an internationally known scientist and cancer researcher. His current major research interests include signal transduction, oncogenes, tyrosine kinases, prostate cancer and cancer virology.

Dr. Kung earned his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1976, and his B.S. in Chemistry from the National Taiwan University in 1969.

Peter Lee, M.D
Scientific Advisory Board Member
Dr. Lee is an Assistant Professor in Medicine (hematology) and a member of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Stanford University. His research focuses on understanding the biology of the immune response to cancer. Dr. Lee's research seeks to establish how the immune system distinguishes between a normal cell and a cancer cell, the molecular mechanisms by which cancer cells modulate the immune response, and how different treatments (e.g. chemotherapy, radiation, transplantation, biotherapies, etc.) - impact the balance between tumor cell proliferation and the immune response. Dr. Lee was the recipient of the Era of Hope Award for breast cancer research in 2006.

John Curd, M.D

Dr. Curd is President and Chief Medical Officer of Novacea. From June 1999 to May 2001, Dr. Curd served as Executive Vice President at VaxGen, Inc., a vaccine company. From December 1991 to June 1999, Dr. Curd served in various positions, including Vice President of Clinical Development at Genentech. While at Genentech, he directed the clinical development of Herceptin®, Rituxan®, Xolair™ and Raptiva™. From 1978 to 1991, Dr. Curd served in various positions, including President of the Medical Staff at Scripps Clinical and Research Foundation, La Jolla, California.

Dr. Curd holds a B.S. in chemistry from Princeton University and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School.

Wei Zhou, Ph.D

Mr. Wei Zhou is Vice President of Intellectual Property and Advanced Technology at Affymetrix, Inc., Santa Clara, CA. He has been instrumental in developing the renowned Affymetrix' patent portfolio. From 2005 to 2006, as Affymetrix' China Country Manager, he has successfully led a multifunctional team to establish Affymetrix' direct presence in China and formed key strategic alliance, including a joint R&D arrangement, translational medicine centers, and service provider arrangements with China's National Biochip Engineering Centers and research collaborations with leading universities in China. Working with colleagues at corporate affairs and the legal department, he has contributed to public policy initiatives on gene patenting, industry standard setting, access to health care, patent pooling and research exemption. Prior to Affymetrix, Mr. Zhou was a patent attorney with Pennie & Edmonds LLP.

He received his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech (John Lee Pratt Fellow), his postdoctoral training in molecular and cellular gastroenterology from Emory University School of Medicine and his JD from Stanford Law School (associate editor, Stanford Law Review). He is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, California courts and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit.
