Tumor biomarkers are endogenous proteins or metabolites whose amounts of modification significantly correlate to tumor state. They can facilitate diagnosis of cancers at early stages, and help predict disease course and outcome (prognosis). These proteins are also used as therapeutic targets for drug discovery.
